Raven Steps

Rocking back and forth, in the canoe
Some say too much, when you finally, get your groove
When the day is still, seeking your own thrill
The sudden splash, a hole to fill
Feel the sun go by, once it leaves the sky
You can follow the light, from the firefly
In the dead of night, no more sound or sight
Except for the owl, a toll tonight
See the waves of stars, anywhere you look
The signal and signs, lost from the book
Feel the slightest breeze, a spirit in the leaves
Or nothing more, but you start to reach
As far as you can, another skin to shed
You’ve lost so many, there is no end
Maybe one last step, before you fall
When you look up, start to crawl
What can you do next, to find your way home
Follow the raven, who always does know
Or so you thought, until much later
