The Lady Who Told a Lie

Well it started with just a little slip
And then she told another one
And it felt like a rush, like a rollercoaster
The way she fooled everyone
And then she tried something bigger
To see if people believed her
And still no body batted an eye
The lady had told a lie
She noticed that the sky wasn’t quite
The sky wasn’t quite so blue
When she wasn’t lying
There was nothing else to do
She couldn’t help but deceive some more
She told less of the truth than even before
Until there wasn’t anything real left
And no surprises in store
Because eventually we all knew
That everything was the opposite of what was true
And we got to predict what she’d say and she stayed that way
And she said a trick of the lie
The grass wasn’t quite so green
And things didn’t taste
Quite as sweet as they’d been
She noticed that the sky wasn’t quite
The sky wasn’t quite so blue
When she wasn’t lying
There was nothing else to do
