Dragon Wagon

Under the mountain
Deep in the cave
I followed the bones
To the unmarked grave
Through winding tunnels
Labyrinth of stone
I found the hoard
Lizard upon his throne
Sleeping upon a mountain of gold
And gems
And weapons
And armor of old
Mordominus
Scourge of the Northern People
I stumble
And metal coins bounce off the floor
He sees me
His eyes wide awake
I turn to run as the floor begins to shake
Sprinting
Hot breath at my back
Not one has claimed to survive his attacks
Looking for an exit
I go back the way I came
Dead end
The chamber fills with flame
Melted rock
The ceiling begins to shake
It collapses
Trapping the dragon in his place
Desperately he pleads
«Please free me!
I’ll grant you what you wish
Anything you desire!»
Carefully
I contemplate the offer
Grinning ear to ear as I reach for the rocks
I gather the wagon
Wrap a gold chain round his neck
And load it up with treasure!
Flying back to town
On the back of a giant lizard
Wagon of gold in tow
Waving hello to the wizard
I’ve got a dragon wagon
