On the windowsill my elbow’s numb
As I heard the door go and saw your car
As it glides onto the road
Double glazed to dumbness
Sodding off and I can’t hear you go

There you sit in the driving seat
And your teeth chew gum though your lips don’t move
You’ve got the dial for the heater up high
And your eyes have moved to the corny sky
And you see clear through

It’s nearly four now I can’t see your car anymore
So I close my eyes with my eyelids
Fat like a coiled spring and set to jump at anything
