Unemployment Blues

It’s been months since my layoff and I’m starting to feel like so many do
I’m looking for a job any job out there that I can do
I used to have it all and it felt pretty good
Life was nice and cozy in my neighborhood
But that all went away when I got the unemployment blues
You need a higher education now to make them take a look at you
I guess the thirty years I spent might as well have been in Timbuktu
I’m good at my profession though it’s probably too late
A high school education doesn’t make the grade
Life is so much harder when you got the unemployment blues

Uncle Sam wants to ensure you that he’s doing everything he can do
But the bailouts and the handouts haven’t gotten down to me or you
The experts say recovery is just ‘round the bend
But I don’t think I’ll see much before I am dead
