As The Cannons Fade

As the cannons fade and the bodies are counted
Another hill, another mountain
This pointless routine of our so-called war machine
Don’t dare to question why so many have died
These nights last forever, time is passing by
The sound of distant gunfire, breaks the silence of the night
As daytime comes and the sun starts to burn
The enemies coming with their backs to the sun
But yet they’re too far off to take them on
This cat and mouse game goes on and on
Take your positions and lay down low
Hold your fire until you see their eyes glow
Tired of waiting a comrade storms the hill
Too late to hold him back, as we watch him being killed
No more plan or strategy, tactics thrown overboard
Another senseless chapter in this godforsaken war
Going nowhere fast, how much longer can we last
It might be our turn when the sun sets in the west
Our chances of survival become smaller by the day
We’re ordered to keep fighting, there is no other way
The only way out of this never-ending hell
Is to storm that goddamned hill and arrange my own farewell
