Pen and Ink

Teardrops flooding the soil before
Fed the roses blue
Earworms beneath were just noises once
Now they’re blooming into you
You keep throwing at me empty love grenades
When you move in slow charades
As I’m guessing the words you painted me
You’re still drifting in serenades
Drew up a world with my pen and my ink
Black into white noises stopped in a blink
Chaotic colors and lines into sync

Stroboscopes of clouds and light
And day and night hold tight
A fascinating little world can twirl
And hide your life under high tides
Remember when your pen and ink
Were guided left to right between the lines
Give your mind a tickle and trace a map
Of how far you can write
Chalk it on a sidewalk
Then let the rain wash it all out, out
Make a point, a dot, or two that end a thought
Gone too far south, south
Capitalize your eyes upon how long
They learn to ride
The waves and shapes of words on paper
Before the ink runs dry, dry, dry
