Amnesia

I sleep a rest and dreamless sleep,
Sordid and cold
My heartbeat resounding in a vacant cave
Awakened me
Someone -maybe me- says these words:
«I am so far from where I am»
My feet find no footing I struggle to stand
and I can’t recall who I am.
Alive with no life in me
My mind holds no memory of who I am
There’s only so much you can say
About a man without a name.
No trace of a person in me
If memories are who we are
These hands can’t be mine if I cannot
Recall how I used them
If this is all that I have
My life was meaningless,
Where do I go if I don’t know
Where I came from
Here I stand and my feet will not move
What gives meaning to our life,
If there’s nothing left inside?
The last to die is hope…
