40 Days

Running from my demons, I sought the desert land
40 days and 40 nights I ran
With blacktop underneath me, the sun before me rose
40 days and 40 nights I drove
She appeared like she was heaven sent
The Devil’s Playground is where it is we went
We ate the food of the gods in repose
Take this trip wherever the hell it goes
The rain came down, dissolved me into the wind
And so it came to pass, I met my end
She often spoke of Tangiers, said that’s where she’d be
40 days and 40 nights at sea
As we shot the junk of Naked Lunch, I found myself entranced
40 days and 40 nights we danced
She whispered of occult things that she had done
Said I’d love to help, but you know I’m on the run
With serpentine movement, she came across the bed
More than once I’d a sworn that I was dead
The rain came down, dissolved me into the wind
And so it came to pass, I met my end
I showed her my pistol and I could see that she was scared
40 days and 40 nights we stared
She slumped down to the floor, pain tore me up inside
40 days and 40 nights I cried
Her heart was broke at the loss of her youth
I said, «Honey, I don’t know about you, but I think I’m through»
«This life we’re livin', ain’t livin' at all»
Her eyes rolled back and I ran out from the stall
The rain came down, dissolved me into the wind
And so it came to pass, I met my end
