Give me a leaf in a condiment jar
fill it with well water.
My feet and my head
tucked in and wet
beneath a plate of shale bone.
I liked it and I’d do it again
to be a turtle and a mayonnaise magnet.
The world is quick and I’m a coward boy

Give me a corner of the third drawer down
or hang me up from the mantle.
There’s not a foot in this place
but I’ve got plenty of space
