Palm Trees

I want there to be palm trees
I want them to be ruffling when we’re through
I want there to be cities
Where I can go and wait in off grey hills
I want there to be orphans
Who I can find a home for when I’m gone
I want there to be old friends
And breakfast when I wake up on my boat
I want someone to make me
I want someone to ask me how am I
Don’t want you to betray me
Just to not feel all our dreams this foul
I want to have a heart love
I want to have a snow cone and a beau
I want to go on airplanes
And get myself some place that isn’t here
Sometimes I worry bout the future
Sometimes I feel lonely, old and so low
I learned to disagree now
So sometimes I just disagree for fun
The savages have won now
And righteous men must lead them to the wolves
But the trees are long gone now
A man is sitting right there where they stood
And singers have no songs now
You’ll see them in their slippers on the road
They’re mumbling in some melody
Reflected off the surface long ago
