To Karbala I Yearn to Go

To Karbala I yearn to go
To lament and show my sorrow

Tribulations in this land of grief
Salutations will bring me relief
We’ll add our tears to the Euphrates
Lamentations flowing with such ease
This matam* will reverberate
This tragedy we must narrate
Until my death, «Ya Hussain"* I’ll say
And cry for Hussain on Judgement Day
For on those plains we heard your call
You saved Islam for us all
Harbun liman haarabahum*
Wa silmun li man saalamahum*
In Khum* we were left two weighty things
To the Ahlul Bayt* we’ll always cling
Peace be on you Ya Aba Abdillah*
The grandson of Rasulullah*
