Essential Casualties

As hours pass me by
It’s getting clear
I’ve been defeated by another clear decision
Is it my selfishness or something sheer?

Felt all the promises that came from within me
Could be so easily fought against

Now self-destruction rejoins again
I know I could have been so much smarter
