Train to Eternity

I left the station many years ago, excited for what lay ahead
She stayed behind, so many miles although-
I close my eyes and there she is
These wheels roll on from track to track
I ride across the land
Every mile brings me closer
The final stop is glory
On this train… to eternity
I’ll ride this train to eternity (and all the way down)
People get on and they get off
Sometimes we become friends
But they cannot stay, for in the end-
Our destinations aren’t the same
Others try to ride along
But find they cannot pay the fare
Sometimes we pull into a station
But if you get off, you’re nowhere
Long ago I got my ticket
Never to be a slave
And I go the direction that I want
From greatness to the grave
