Progeny of Pain

Hatred has emerged
From a once tranquil place
Nevermore, never again
Will you see my face
The world seeps into
The sponge of a boy
The hand of the aging shopkeep
Wrings him dry
Why, then, does the seed still grow
Something’s missing, impossibly so
Was it his own fault
Or was it the woman
Did she leave altogether?
Will she ever be back?
Hatred has emerged
From a once tranquil place
Nevermore, never again
Will you see my face
Receding to black
I give up the life I knew and loved
You pushed me here
I’ll never go back
I am the Progeny of pain
Empty and cold
The search for the heart
Leaves him weary
And he knows not where to turn
The deadline approaches now
But maybe he can win
If only this aging man
Can keep away the pain
