Escape Your Escape

Outside the city there’s a small green town
Where the air smells so much clearer
There’s a brewery and art museum
You can bike to if you like
All the noise and stress of our real lives
Seem to vanish into the treetops
Looking at the homes and yards
We imagined living there
'Till we asked the local teens
About their wishes and their dreams
And I repeat they go, 'Sleep, sleep, run away
This is no place to celebrate'
Beyond the tourists shops with tie-dyed shirts
Beyond the put-put hole with the windmill
There’s nothing here but day after day
Staring at computer screens
To approximate the thrill of being
Anywhere but in this small town
Loitering outside the stores
Not knowing what falafel is
When the novelty wears thin
You see the time that we live in
So we’re begging you escape your escape
There’s still time to get away
After listening to their desperate advice
We looked 'round and shrugged our shoulders
And headed to the mall
Just to see what we could see
When we looked at what we timed
We couldn’t help but roll our eyes
All they were showing were remakes of remakes
At any given time of day
We decided to escape our escape
This is just a place to play
It was essential to escape our escape
There’s still time to act our age
