After Midnight

After midnight in a bungalow
There’s a countdown
To when he’s leaving those
Comrades on the ground
Hardened faces painted green and gold
All that’s missing if the truth be told
Is the will to fight once more
Every thought was of his wife and kids
In an order they would tear apart what once was sound
Family parts leave orphan’s without homes
Back on the ground there were parades
Promises and accolades
Every night he’s with his wife and kids
At home the hero’s having nightmares of all he’s done
