Lullaby

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
This may cease my wondering
Drifting slowly out to sea
I been sitting round so long
The papers tell of awful things
The world is pulling out it’s teeth
But in the trees mockingbirds sing
The world is made of pretty things
Colours of a sunset’s fire
Like the sound of babies crying
One way all the first align
Someday I will write a song
That will put the world to sleep
And quiet all of those babies
Pretty lying peacefully
And now I’ll wear a diamond ring
Maybe fake but I don’t care
As I have asked for lesser things
Even if the ring don’t shine
And when we run out of air
I shall cover us in quilts
They shall kiss our skin so fair
And tuck us into new warm beds
