She had always known that all she owned worth keeping
Could be packed in a couple of bags as they were leaving
By the time they were out of arm’s reach, the baby was sleeping
And the sun wouldn’t rise until they crossed the state line
Still, she made sure to keep her sunglasses on while driving
In case the highway patrol were out in full force this morning

So her baby would not have to wake up to

A P.O. box and a new name and somehow make a living
