I can’t believe all these young kids
That I spy from my window
And I see on the news and in my paper
Every morning it’s the same
They gather on the corner
Waiting there for me
As I see them flashing switchblades
And trading drugs for guns
At least that’s what I think I see
From my window
These walls are moving closer
This floor is falling on me now
This coat of mail’s too heavy for my shoulders to lift
This skin feels translucent
These bones are creaking as I move

When I moved here there was a meadow
Right outside my window
But sometime in the seventies they started moving here
From lands I didn’t know existed
And whose names I couldn’t spell
And shot this place to hell
They said on the news today
In the afternoon
On the square this guy
Blew someone’s head off
