Now That the Money Is Gone

Poor little rich girl pursued by a country boy
So disarming when Prince Charming said that she’s his only reason for joy
He promised her that he’d spend his life
Making sure she was a satisfied wife
But ever since the downturn she’s found herself alone
Now that the money is gone
He shines in the pulpit when he’s preaching the word of the Lord
The most pious and self-righteous reverend the church could afford
They bought him a Rolex they bought him a car
But it stretched the collection plate too far
He packed his bags in the middle of the night now he’s moving on
Now that the money is gone
Upon reflection some folks' affection
Is tied to the bottom line
No funds remaining they start complaining
It’s only a matter of time
He picked the lucky numbers and exploded his bank account
He was surprised by the long lost friends that he suddenly found
Everybody seemed to want him around
He was the biggest thing in his little town
But now when he calls no one answers the phone
