A young man was he and he sailed on the sea
But a longin' came in to his heart
He breathed a great sigh for he must say goodbye
To the seaport this message he’d send
Fly pretty swallow fly to the seashore
Back to the one who’s waiting for me
Tell her I’m coming back to the seashore
Back from the sea for she’s anchored my heart
Now an old man is he and he sail every sea
For his young bride she died long ago
With his life at its end and the sea is only friend
Once more this message he sent

Back to the cabin that I built for my bride
