Drifting

Inevitably, I find myself drifting
Leaping from thought to dripping thought
Into my eyes, golden streams, sunlight
Other’s lives … worlds walk by me
Right by me, close
Then gone
Briefly entering my world, as I theirs
And with the speed of glance
Taking in all I am
My life
My world
My dreams
All neatly set in a category of people
Whom my appearance reminds them of
But there are few who truly enter my play
Many share but a few lines
And too many for a few left the stage
Still singing the songs of youth and folly
Enough to ponder upon
While replaying my life in my thoughts
Again I drift
The clock at the top of the hill strikes four
In a strong wind
Reality slaps my face
I must go
Thou the sunlight begs me to stay
