Frayed & Torn

All that glitters is rarely gold
It’s never more than your can hold
Next to what you’ve bought and sold
Now I’ve been skating on thin, thin ice
I get so nervous when the weather is nice
But I’ll never take my own advice
If I can keep these years at bay
And think of something new to say
I might avoid this gradual decay
As people come and people go
They take what they need and reap what you sow
And leave a little vacuum in their wake
In rationing my feelings out
Convinced of what it’s all about
Now I have some nagging doubts
For everyone who’s been and gone
Another two will come along
Watch them sing the same old song
A wall of sound in a long white room
A chrysalis now a cold dark tomb
Echoes a forgotten tune
And he unto the manor born
A broken oath on a bible sworn
Will never see the fabric frayed and torn
