Without Love

When I’m up against the wall
When I want to scream and kick and fall
I try to close my eyes and listen
For a voice so very small
When I feel attacked
And I want to give some of it back
I need to get down on my knees and pray for love

I know that I would be nothing

My heart would beat for no reason
There wouldn’t be a reason to live

I’ve been known to build up walls of fear
Around my heart and hide in here
Let emotions cloud my vision
'Til I can’t see clear
And I can fight with those who disagree
Or I can reach out with words of mercy
With the kind of love Christ Jesus gives to me
So let me love my brother like You first loved me
A heart full of compassion is all I really need
