One for the lanterns,
Two for the bugs
Three for the punch at this summer ball
Four for the dance,
Five for the dusk
The things I must focus on instead of her
Six for the hum of cellos in C sharp
Playing waltzes for shuffling feet
Seven for the glare off every glassy thing
And eight for the scent of daises in the spring
But Sallie’s hard as stone
