Mountain Fire

It’s early in September and the woods are dry as tinder
Blow-down trees and Ponderosa Pine
There’s a danger in the air, a premonition and a prayer
From the dead wood slopes up to the timberline
In the valley far below all the fire fighters know
There’s a thunder storm building in the sky
The minutes turn to hours high in the lookout towers
Waiting for the flash of a lightning strike
Fire! The mountain’s burnin' down
Grab a shovel or an axe or a hose or a cable
Come all you fire fighters, come if you’re able
Smoke chaser, water bomber, get up and go
There’s a wildfire burnin' out of control
Fire! The mountain’s burnin' down
Sparks are flyin' high and there’s black smoke in the sky
The bushland is a burnin' wall of fire
All the valley’s burnin' down, flames are threatening the town
Threatening our houses homes and lives
Can you feel the scorching heat? See the ashes in the street?
Here comes the call «Evacuate the town!»
There’s fear and there’s despair, people worried everywhere
Stop the fire before it burns us down

Prometheus brought fire to the earth!

In answer to our call the rain begins to fall
The winds change and blow the other way
Fire fighters double tough and a little help from up above
And the raging forest fire is held at bay
Now the land is black and burned and a lesson has been learned:
Beware of the lightning in the sky
Throughout the timberland keep every fire station manned
And be ready for the day you hear the cry:
