I Choose to Stand

It’s better to stand up and shout than lie down and whimper
With the heal of the 1% trying to hold you down
I can’t just stand here and do nothing, so I’ll join the 99% downtown.
Stand with the many on the courthouse steps
Wishing the law wasn’t broken — Hoping we can fix it.
But I don’t know — I just hope so I know that I must stand so brothers here I am It’s better to stand up and shout than lie down and whimper

I’m really not a fighter — I’m a lover of this country
Not of the government, but a lover of the land
There’s so much that’s broken — I’m not sure how to fix it But I do have faith and that is why I stand
