Faithful

Empty vigil in ink black night
I awaken to the same refrain
I make no claim to second sight
Just the blind following the blind again
My stubborn heart always misleads
Away from the little light I can see
Adrift in the tide of my own misdeeds
Wishing I was who I never could be
Oh, that I were faithful

Oh, that I would hear Your voice
And I would follow You
I’m easily fooled most of the time
But nobody’s ever going to dig too deep
We’re all in a hurry to somewhere else
With distractions and too little sleep
I gotta a list of questions long as my arm
And the only second chance I see
To live and die without permanent harm
Is if God can outmaneuver me
What makes a man hunger for truth
Then ignore what little he understands
He blames it on age, blames it on youth
Props up a dead man with both of his hands
If only the pure in heart will see
The glory of God one endless day
I pray His Spirit will remember me
And the stuttering prayers I try to pray

And I could be with You
