Despite everything we’re born twice
Phoenix and vermin cats and mice
Half of our brain is a dominant one
What’s left of our legs carries the man
Our two hands are tied to a single side
We flee the fairs and work for a while
Wrapped in our beds and sleeping in baths
Scowling so hard that we’ll wreck our eyes
Doorbells don’t sound when batteries are flat
It’s obvious we’re stuck in the dark
We’re stuck in the dark
Should we run in the streets or hide in the wild?
Is this fair to say that we don’t need anyone?
Does «being ourselves» mean losing our time?
Is refraining from talking better than mime?
Our boxes are blank for we emptied our minds
Almost prepared for it — eager for surprise
We don’t always accept but we cannot deny
