Cab Fare

Just the other day
A rich man asked to have his way, with me
And I coughed, and excused myself to think
Could this be worth my while, to just simply nod and smile
I’d say I was persuaded by a poverty of friends
Don’t worry, boy, the extra scratch should calm that itch
That keeps you up, when you’re alone
But the itch surrounds your bones
And there’s cab fare, but no going home
He’ll give you everything you want it to be
When you can read between the lines
The fine grant is small and the field too tall
To be anything at all by yourself
Could this be worth my while, to just simply nod and smile
