Well I was toolin' down the highway in my beat up '53
Smokin' like a steamship with the police after me
When I passed the business district, just then I saw
A Cadillac Motor sign sayin' «Trade your run down car»
Well I pulled up in the alley, tore my clutch right out the floor
I was half way in the dealer’s when the cops flew by the door

Well, I bought that big black Cadillac and I took off down the road
Adjust my rear view mirror, then I spied that police Ford

So I whacked that wheel around and I cut off down the dirt side road
That big machine wouldn’t make the turn, and the cops they grabbed hold of me
And the last I ever seen my Cadillac, it was wrapped around a tree
