Voting don’t mean nothing in this country nowadays
As long as we’ve got wars to fight and die in
1983, 1984, yesterday, tomorrow and then the year before
There’s nothing you can do that they can’t see
Republican, Democrat, left and the right
Are all in bed with eachother in the middle of the night
It’s all the same as long as you can learn to live in fear
MPR, Fox News, CNN and NBC
Are all selling you something, telling you how to believe
It takes a lot of work to think for yourself
Sign up and go to college
Sign up and go to war
Killing for your country
Education for the poor
There’s a high price to pay, if you’re gonna feel normal

And I wonder if it ever meant anything in the first place
