A Hallucination

There’s rolling hills and lakes freezing over in winter, winter, winter
There’s another me fifty years older and struggling down a street
There’s two more addicted to each other
New ones coming out of their mothers
Two more who make each other’s blood boil
Dead ones rotting in the soil
There is enough love to go around, around, around
And there is enough hate to keep you aground, aground, aground
There are pretty witches you wish you never met
A man who finds it all too much to just forget

Forcing smiles for his fiddlers three
Is everything a hallucination?
Because sometimes everything feels like a hallucination
There’s everyone tryna get their escape
When the two sides of their brains begin to chafe
There are times when everything is alright
But sometimes all the wires get pulled too tight
You’re an actor on the big screen
You don’t know which to cut
The red, blue, or the green
There are talking snakes that whisper in your ear
A machine that will swallow you
If you get too near
There’s cannibalism indirect and direct
There’s the abject and there the elect
Packed like sardines in their city that’s why
They had to stack the buildings up to the sky
Is everything a hallucination
Because sometimes everything feels like a hallucination
