The day was young
As we rode along the river

He was the fairest thing to grace those steady banks
In ages come and lost forever
There was a mystery about him

So we spoke
And he, laughing, took my hand

His words were fickle jewels along the sand

And though he never said it
I think perhaps the girl he meant was me
