Dark Road

In my car moving thru the insidious night, There’s nothing wrong that’s ever
been right,
A ghost ran out in front of me,
I swerved and I almost hit a tree,
If chaos were any more ordered we’d all be lost,
Dangerous curves; mismatched and star-crossed,
White light over a dark blue tune,
Dark road; black cat and a full moon.
It’s not a windfall my hands are hard and worn,
I’m lucky my heart’s in one piece the way my soul’s been scraped and torn,
It’s just a mind full of thoughts and a head full of wine,
I had to give away everything I didn’t need just to keep what was mine,
I was trying to find myself but I wasn’t looking for me,
And when I saw I wasn’t afraid to say I see, Misery comes sooner but the
morning soon,
Dark road; black cat and a full moon.
I’m almost home but I keep wanting to look over my shoulder,
I’m not getting any younger and I might not get much older,
Some people I’ve seen seem to be frozen in time,
As if life were for losers and the living of it was a crime,
But all those shadows are in the rear view mirror,
The dreams get dimmer as the world gets clearer,
