I was born in the middle of the morning
Late october but it’s burning like hell
Daddy worked through the indian summer
Mama smoked she can’t help herself
She threw her ashes on the dried up soil
The heat rising from the old asphalt
Made New Jersey feel like the Sahara
Begged for water and the chill of fall
