The Afterglow

So the wheel has turned again
And we’re left here at the end
Of something that was bigger than us all
The old guard has stepped down
A king passed down his crown
And left us tumbling in free fall
Nothing fills the void that we are facing
No one’s gravity is as strong
And here we are spinning
Farther apart as we’re clinging
To the memory’s weight still shared
It’s never just an end
But it’s not easy to transcend
An entire lifetime and its weight
The memories will last
But the hole is just too vast
Truly too big to negate
A place is empty at the table
Unanswered questions pile up on the floor
And a formal alliance
Yields only a silence
That we break as we learn to crawl
Smaller than we were
(respect?) is all in a blur
We need more strength to hold the fort
So be with us if you can
