The days were too loud and the weeks were too long
And the months went too slowly, and sadly, and wrong
But still, just as always, they brought us to here
Looks like we made it to Christmas
The joy of the season is harder to feel
When the world seems unsafe, and not right, and not real
And yet through the sadness, confusion and fear
Somehow we made it to Christmas
We’ll gather round the tree once more
Just like so many times before
And celebrate the blessed birth of Jesus
He came to us in perfect love
And now he looks down from above
But who knows what he’s thinking when he sees us?
When sickness and anger have kept us apart
Can gladness and laughter still fill up your heart?
Despite all the distance, hope’s drawing near
Thank God, we made it to Christmas
For Jesus taught us it was good
For men to live in brotherhood
And bear no bonds of bitterness between them
So when you sing those words again
«Peace on earth, goodwill to men»
Please, this time, when you sing them, try to mean them
The days were too loud and the weeks were too long
And the months went too slowly, and sadly, and wrong
We’ve been through so much since the start of the year
Not all of us made it to Christmas
But we have, somehow
We’re still here, right now
And we still can make loving each other our vow
And say
That we made it
For Christmas
