Two-Headed Snake

Do you hear that dreadful rustle of the leaves
It’s the two-headed snake of loneliness and grief
And it’s coiled up between us where we lay
It sinks its teeth deep inside my chest
My heart and toes go numb as the venom spreads
I don’t think I could have made a better prey
You know the cold, rude nature of the wind
It eagerly fills the void between our skin
And the way you walked away from us felt like a breeze
I’ve grown three pounds of beard since you’ve gone
My smile feels awful heavy since you left me here alone
Place that old dull razor to my throat and set me free
