It’s getting late and they’re both tired
Weary of the things they know
They can’t ever talk about
She’s turned her back pretending to sleep
Doesn’t want to turn around and show him
That there’s nothing left
Her feelings for him
Just died a sudden death
She’d thought she’d keep on loving him
— or at least always care
But something is broken
Or maybe not even there
He’s fallen asleep.-
She lies there thinking
Remembering when nights like this
Were filled with passion not with fear
She wonders what she did
To make him so mad
And why this story seems to happen
To her over and over
When there’s suddenly nothing left
Her romances always seem
To get a sudden death
She thinks she’ll keep on loving
— or at least always care
But something gets broken
Or disappears
Daylight’s breaking and she’s still tired
Worn out by the thoughts that are
Haunting her
She gets up quietly and puts her
Make-up on
To hide her black eye — dries a tear
As she leaves her key behind
And there’s nothing left
Her feelings for him
Just died that sudden death
