I used to be so lonely
endless nights, empty days
til I met you, my one and only
now I wish you’d go away …
I want to be lonely again
lonely’s not so bad
I never understood
what a good life I had
no one snoring all night long
right in my ear
no one so consistently
persistently near
I want to be lonely again
those were the days
a table for one
no debating who pays
no arguing over
which movie to see
no having to visit
your rude family
I want to be lonely again
this time I won’t complain
because I understand love now
love is a pain
I want to go back to the days when
we were 'just friends'

Why don’t I just tell you
to move out, get your own place
but something stops me when I see that
sad look on your face
I think that look means

don’t you know how lucky you are
if it weren’t for me you’d probably still be at that bar
drinking with all the other restless boys
wasting a whole lot of time
making a whole lot of noise
I’d probably be on the phone
or doing my nails
surfing the net all alone
composing desperate e-mail
