The Circle

I found a way to slow it down
I was twisting all the knobs
And grinding gears in to the dust
Of smoke that covered up the corridors of time
Aiding and abetting an escape
I thought was mine and only mine
Where no one’s standing guard
Or dishing dirt and naming names
The past is easier to bend
I found a way to slow it down
I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve
In case the spark recedes
I’ll draw a circle around the border and perimeter of time
Of motivation and sensation and the walls that I can’t climb
I’m standing still and letting go
At a speed that I can’t know
And I don’t even try to pretend or comprehend
